Answer 10 of 12
Is the nature photography exclusive to my project? – Affordable Nature Photography
No. What non-exclusive means at three dollars a file, and the free ways to make a shared frame look like yours.
No. The licence is non-exclusive and at this price that is not a surprise: somebody else may be using the same photograph, possibly today.
If your project cannot tolerate that, this is the wrong library and we would rather say so on this page than after you have printed.
What the risk actually looks like
It varies enormously by frame. A generic wide valley at golden hour is bought constantly, because it is what people search for. An awkward, specific, slightly overcast frame of an unremarkable ridge is bought rarely, because nobody searches for it and it is therefore available.
The second kind is almost always the better creative choice anyway, for exactly the same reason.
Making a shared frame yours, free
Crop hard. Most buyers use the frame as delivered. A decisive crop makes the same file unrecognisable next to its own original.
Grade to your palette. A consistent grade across a set of images does more for brand ownership than the choice of images does.
Composite. Once a photograph is one layer among several, its provenance stops mattering.
Choose the imperfect frame. The one with the odd foreground, the flat light, the cloud in the wrong place. Less bought, more memorable.
If you genuinely need exclusivity
We do not sell buy-outs at this price point. A three-dollar library and an exclusivity contract are not compatible business models, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.
What we can tell you, if you ask with an asset id, is roughly how often a specific frame has been licensed. For a decision about whether to build a campaign on a picture, that is usually the number that matters.
For work that truly requires an exclusive image, commission a photographer. It costs more than three dollars and it is the right answer.
What the licence does give you
Perpetual worldwide commercial use with no impression limit, which is more than many subscription libraries grant at forty times the price. Non-exclusive is the trade that makes that possible.
A note on competitors
The scenario people actually fear is not a stranger using the picture. It is a direct competitor using it, on the same kind of material, at the same time.
That risk is real and it is concentrated in the most obvious frames. If you are choosing an image for a category where everyone shops in the same few libraries, deliberately avoid the picture that came up first, and prefer the one on page four. It costs the same three dollars and it is the cheapest differentiation available to you.
